Three vehicles destroyed in Oakland carport fire

OAKLAND — Three vehicles parked in an East Oakland apartment
complex carport were destroyed in a fire Friday morning, officials
said.

Officials believe the fire accidentally started in the engine
compartment of one of the vehicles. The exact cause is under
investigation.

No one was injured and the fire was prevented from spreading to
any apartments.

The fire started about 3:28 a.m. Friday in a carport at an
apartment complex in the 3800 block of Maybelle Avenue in the
Laurel district.

It took more than 30 firefighters 15 minutes to bring the fire
under control. Besides the SUV and two cars that were destroyed,
there was also some stucco damage, officials said.

No residents were displaced.

Damage was estimated to be in excess of $50,000.
